The term "Third World" is clearly problematic in that it indicates a part of the world that has fallen behind, or lost the race to development altogether, rather than highlighting the exploitation and over-development of the “First World.” The term “Fourth World” is used to describe the increasing numbers of very poor who live in the world's wealthy countries.
