Notes to Numenius
1. Cronius is a shadowy figure, presumably a contemporary of Numenius. He is coupled with Numenius in three ancient testimonies (Iamblichus, On the Soul in Stobaeus I.374.21-375.18, I.380.6-19; frs. 43, 48, and Syrianus, In Metaphysica 109.12-14; fr. 46b). Apparently he followed Numenius on the question of the entry of the soul into body but he denied transmigration into animals (Nemesius, De natura hominis 116.3-8). He is mentioned as one of the authors read in Plotinus' seminar (Life of Plotinus 14.11). See Dillon 1977, 379-380.
