1. David Boaz prefers “classical liberalism” as a label for “the philosophy of individual rights, free markets, and limited government — the philosophy of Locke, Smith and Jefferson” (Boaz 1997, 23) — and “libertarianism” for the “political philosophy that applies the ideas of classical liberalism consistently” (25).

2. Rawls did not intend for the principles of justice to apply directly to the inner workings of the institutions that make up the basic structure (see Rawls 1997, 596; and Lloyd 1995, 1326-27).
